Alexandria Board of Selectmen
January 10, 2008
Approved January 17, 2008
Members Present: Cindy Williams, Don Gangemi and Tom McGowan
The meeting came to order at 6:00 p.m.
At the work session, the selectmen met with Architect Brackley Shaw and Construction Manager Keith McBey regarding a letter received from the ADA advocate from the State of New Hampshire. In the letter, a number of violations were cited at the new building. Brackley will develop a remediation plan to submit to the state for review. In the meantime, Keith will work to determine what cost concessions Bonnette, Page and Stone will give to the town. Cindy said that the entrance doors should have been accessible from the start. The selectmen agreed that if a button is used to open the doors, it should be located on the left side of the porch and should operate the right hand door.
Bonnie O’Brien led the Pledge of Allegiance
The minutes of December 27 were approved by a vote of 3-0.
The minutes of January 3 were distributed for review.
CADY: Deb Naro came in to explain what CADY does and to request an appropriation for this year. They work on prevention programs to keep youth off drugs and alcohol. They are prevention, not treatment. Community education is a large part of their effort. A weekly column appears in the Record Enterprise, programs are put on in schools and there is a court diversion program, among others. Over the past two years, some 200 Alexandria residents have taken part in a portion of what CADY has to offer. CADY would appreciate any portion of their request that the town sees fit to approve. Don asked if there is a way to get more Alexandria people involved. Deb said getting the word out about the services is always key. They are partnering with the Tapply Thompson Center. A Community Access Channel can be helpful. Merry said that CADY could come to Community Day this year.
Jeff Cantara: The selectmen told Jeff that they would be sending a letter to Mr. Troncone regarding Eastman Hill Road, explaining that they will take a look at everything in the spring. Jeff and two local contractors looked at the garage floor to determine what needs to be done. For $40,000 they can redo the floor and make it so it is ready for radiant heat and drains. This type of heat is highly recommended for buildings of this sort. Heat at the present time is costing $10,000/year. $25,000 would get just the floor drains in; but the contractor is suggesting that the radiant heat be put in while the concrete floor is already taken up. Cindy and Don both said that the priority is the drains in order to get the water off the floor. Jeff empties the three dehumidifiers multiple times per day. It was suggested to put in a warrant article for the whole project and let the voters decide how much to do. Bob Braley approached Jeff Cantara and asked if the town would be willing to sell him sand. The selectmen said no.
