Approval of Minutes:         The minutes of April 3 were adopted by a vote of 2-0.
Christie was urged to look at the spelling of a couple of
                                                words.

Department Heads:

Christie Phelps:  The letters to prospective members of the search committee have been sent out.  One refusal and two acceptances were received today.  Maggie LaBerge has also asked to be on that committee.  Letters went out to people who expressed an interest in being on a recycling committee as well.  No responses have been received as yet.  A thank you was received from Newfound Lakes Region Assoc. thanking the town for the appropriation approved at town meeting.  The following purchase orders were approved:  Squam Lake Plumbing and Heating-7352.30; Cohen Steel for 921.75; and, R.P. Williams for $5414.  These items all have something to do with the floor drain and/or radiant heat project at the highway garage.  Next week there will be a public hearing on the Benton barn.  They have applied for a discretionary easement.  There has been another application since then that will have to have a public hearing at a later date.  The assessor can be called in to determine how the building should be assessed if the easement is granted.

Jeff Cantara:  Jeff said he would like to move along with the truck purchase.  There were three bids submitted for the cab and chassis; $96474, $98145 and $98200.  Jeff has made one upgrade to the cab, which amounted to approximately $200.  This truck will have an automatic transmission and a 410 Mercedes engine.  Jeff will be using Tenco for the setup work.  Their bid was 63,000; Sleeper was 71,000 and there has been no reply from Donovan.    There is a culvert on Cass Mill Road that is causing some problems.  The owners are will to install the culvert if the town will pay for the purchase of the pipe. This has been done before as part of a cost sharing program.  Jeff said the existing pipe is 18” in diameter.  It will be replaced with a 24” pipe, some 54 feet long.  The present culvert does affect the integrity of the road when it backs up.  Jeff spoke about the ethics policy and asked whether or not it meant that he cannot purchase from R. P. Williams because his wife works there.  He was told it does not.  He will be using Cantara Auto Body (his uncle) to do work on the Expedition.  This person is chosen because they are a local vendor.

Frank Hinkle:  Frank said that Larry Stickney has resigned as animal control office due to personal reasons.  Don asked that a letter of appreciation be written to Larry.  Don congratulated Frank on the article in the Record Enterprise.  Don asked where Frank is with hiring additional part-time officers. Frank said he has had one person of interest so far.  Ernie has said that he would like to come back as an investigator only.  There was a report of 30 tires and various solvent cans left beside the road in the vicinity of the transfer station.  An officer has been assigned to the case.  Christie said that the legislature has suggested that towns offer a Free Tire Day each year so people could bring in their tires without being charged the usual fee.  This may cut down on the number of tires thrown beside the road.  Jeff believes he has a vendor name for Christie to contact in order to get rid of tires.

Items Requiring Signature:

 The following items were signed:

A timber tax warrant for Richard Sneider

Abatement for Ken Braley II in the amount of $32.00

Abatement for Scott Benton in the amount of $4.00

Excavation warrant for William and Ann Hall

Current use application for Bleiler on the Sherman Wadhams property

            Current use application for Ebbetts/Proulx

            Data release agreement from 911

Old Business:

Cole Hill Road:  Tom McGowan received a call from Bob Braley on Cole Hill Road
regarding a car that had gotten stuck.  Frank said the car is no longer there.

New Business:

Fees at transfer station:  Christie let the selectmen know that she checked with Bristol about commercial hauler rates, and they have none.  Ashland does and it is $100 per year for a license; no fees for regular trash, fees for white goods, tires, construction debris, etc.  The contractor will have to provide the town with a list of clients in order to be sure that the trash is generated in Alexandria.  A final decision will wait until Cindy gets back.

Jeff:  The floor project is going well; concrete should be poured next Wednesday.  Some electrical work and plumbing are planned in order to keep this items out of the floor.  Jeff will be out for at least the next three Thursdays, but will give any information he needs conveyed to the selectmen to Christie.

Public Input:            None

Adjournment:  The meeting was adjourned at 6:40 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Christie Phelps, Town Administrator
