Alexandria Board of Selectmen

May 8, 2008

Members Present:   Cindy Williams and Don Gangemi

The meeting came to order at 6:00 p.m.

The Pledge of Allegiance was given.

Jim Richardson & Rich Silverberg were present to give the selectmen an update on emergency preparedness meetings and an outline of what the Caring Community Network of the Twin Rivers (CCNTR) can do for the town.  They also asked the selectmen to sign a letter requesting that the present district not be broken up as the towns working together now have been doing so for a number of years.  They discussed NIMS Training which should be taken by anyone who has a role in the emergency process in the town.  This training is available through the Fire Academy.  A discussion was also held regarding the need for more people to participate in CERT, Citizens Emergency Response Team. George Whittaker will get some applications for the selectmen office.

Distribution of Minutes:      May 1

Approval of Minutes:           The minutes of April 24 were tabled until Tom returns
as Cindy was not present at that meeting.

Department Heads:

Christie reported that the date for the inception of the new Shoreline Protection Law is July 1.  She asked the selectmen whether the members of the recycling committee will be considered volunteers or officials.  If officials, they must take an oath; as volunteers, they can fill out the volunteer form.  The selectmen decided that they are volunteers.  Christie checked with other towns regarding commercial haulers and found out that there is no written contract with them.  They do the same as Alexandria has been requested to do, issue a license and request a list of customers.  Christie asked if the cost of the dog rescue is to be billed to the owner. It was decided not to bill, but to send a letter explaining the cost.

Signature Items:

A Personnel Action Request was submitted for an Animal Control Officer.
Christie was directed to let the chief know that the position must be
            advertised and posted.
An intent to excavate was signed for Joseph Morrison

Old Business:

We are working on Free Tire Day and the Recycling Committee issues.
            The gazebo is under construction.

New Business:

Chris Rhude stated that the town is using her right of way on Gale Road, which is her property, and they should not have paved it.  The selectmen looked at a map to try and understand what Chris meant.  The tax map shows a right of way over her property, but not in the location of Gale Road.  Further study may be necessary.

Public Input:

Bonnie O’Brien is concerned with the cleanliness of the firing range on
Ron Olzak’s property and has a meeting with him on the 17th.

Adjournment:

The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Christie Phelps, TA
