Alexandria Board of Selectmen

October 2, 2008

The meeting came to order at 6:00 with all members present.  The work session preceding the meeting was devoted to a discussion of a sand policy.  Christie will present the selectmen with a draft to review next week.

There was discussion of a locked gate at the highway garage; Don will provide some information on a remote control gate that runs on a battery.  A proposal for an electrically controlled fence was received previously and was found to be extremely expensive.  A locked gate will enable the highway workers to access the garage to get sand for the roads, but will keep the general public out.  Need a sign at old and new highway garages stating that sand is available at the transfer station.  The new policy should be put in the paper, the newsletter, the tax bills and at the transfer station.  There was a discussion regarding dump hours.  Christie had prepared a chart that showed what hours area transfer stations are open.  It is split about half and half as to the facilities open on Sunday.  Don suggested Sunday hours from Memorial Day to Labor Day.  Cindy stated she is still concerned about whether the compactor will last through multiple days.  Hopefully, the addition of the paper and the co-mingled container will reduce the amount of trash in the compactor enough to help it last.  Cindy asked for a trial run on the Sunday hours.

George Whittaker said that his ankle still has a broken bone.  If it is still that way in December,
pins or a steel plate may have to be implanted.  George attended a CERT meeting, but had to
leave early.  He also went to an RCC meeting and saw a slide show on the changing role of
public health.  They are still working on combining some of the all health regions.

Cartographic Associates suggested that the town sign a boundary line agreement with George
Morrison regarding the Dunstan property that has been taken for taxes.

The logistics trailer can be stored at the old highway garage in Alexandria if need be.  A certificate of insurance would be required.  The selectmen were told that whatever town needs the trailer would be responsible for transporting it. The AVFD Auxiliary asked the selectmen to waive the rental fee for the
town hall on an upcoming wedding as long as it is donated to the Auxiliary.

The power plant has received its first load of wood chips and should be in operation soon.

The recycling committee would like to be able to insert a fee schedule, flyer regarding co-mingling
and one dump sticker in each tax bill.

Respectfully submitted,

Christie Phelps,
