Alexandria Board of Selectmen
December 18, 2008
Work Session: At 5:00 p.m. a posted work session was held at which George Whittaker was informed that the position of Emergency Management Director is being absorbed into the police chief’s duties as of January 1, 2008. George was requested to turn in all of that department’s equipment to the selectmen’s office by December 31. George was also told that his continuance as health officer will be contingent upon adherence to the rules and regulations of the town’s personnel policy.
Deliberative Session: The deliberative session came to order at 6:00 p.m. with two members present; Cindy Williams and Tom McGowan. Don Gangemi had called in and explained he would not be available for tonight’s meeting.
The Pledge of Allegiance was given.
Helen LoPresti and Alexis Blais met with the selectmen to discuss the transfer station. Cindy Williams explained to Alexis that Helen would be the supervisor of the transfer station until such time as Doug Paterson is able to return. Alexis stated that Doug would not be returning. Cindy let Alexis know that the town would like her to remain at the transfer station, but felt that Helen had more experience and maturity; a better fit for the supervisory position. Helen explained that she and Alexis do not wish to be open on Sunday, a proposed change in the hours that was previously discussed with the selectmen. She also said that she has been turning people away that were trying to get sand because they do not live in Alexandria.
Christie explained to the selectmen that there were several taxpayers who are owed money due to credits not being applied in previous years; 2005 and prior. These checks will be issued next week, along with the appropriate 6% interest.
Items Requiring Signature:
An Intent to Cut for Peter & Gary LLC was tabled due to the need for a bond because
of unpaid taxes.
Abatements were signed for Michael Briere, Peter B. Brown and Jeffrey Farmer.
Due to the fact that one of the two selectmen present this evening had to leave at 6:15, the meeting was adjourned at that time.
Respectfully submitted,
Christie Phelps
