Alexandria Board of Selectmen

February 3, 2009

Members Present:     Cindy Williams and Tom McGowan

The meeting came to order at 6:00 p.m. with both members present.

The public hearing on the proposed 2009 budget and warrant articles was opened at 6:00 p.m.  All items were disclosed to those in attendance.  Jeff Cantara again asked the selectmen to keep his part-time pay line intact.  There were very few questions on the articles. One question was how much of the health insurance premium does the town pay.  The town pays 100% of the single coverage and 90% of both the two-person and family plans. Christie explained that for 2009, the premium went down .9% and then was reduced even more by adding a higher co-pay to the prescription plan.  Those present did request that the selectmen keep the property tax rate as level as possible.  Cindy asked that no one take any budget cuts as a personal attack; they are not.  It is simply necessary due to present economic conditions. The selectmen will meet tomorrow morning at 10:30 in order to make their final recommendations. The public hearing closed at 6:30 p.m.

The deliberative session of the selectmen’s meeting followed.  The minutes of January 27 were distributed and the minutes of January 20 were approved.

Don Sullivan:  Don reminded people to lock their doors and keep their eyes open.  There have been a rash of break-ins lately that are not confined to one part of town.

Items Requiring Signature:

The selectmen signed a request for an auto inspection station to be opened on
            Cass Mill Road.

An intent to cut was signed for Craig & Cindy Williams.

New Business

Sue Cheney requested that the AVS group be allowed to hold a bake sale at both
the town voting and the town meeting.  For town meeting, they will check with the
middle school.  The selectmen approved the sale on voting day.

There is no meeting next week due to the lack of a quorum.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:10 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Christie Phelps,

Town Administrator
