Alexandria Selectmen’s Meeting
April 5, 2007
Members Present: Peg Reilly, Cindy Williams and Don Gangemi
The work session began at 5:00 p.m.; the deliberative session at 6:00 p.m.
It should be noted for the record that the tape that records the meeting broke this evening and the transcriber is working from notes only.
Don Gangemi said that he will be gone on June 7. As Peg will be gone as well, there will be no meeting that week.
Several policies were reviewed and changes to be made were noted. These included the use of town vehicles, safety equipment use and an addendum to the purchase policy. Once these are signed, they will become a part of the personnel policy.
Christie explained that Advanced Recycling will arrange to pick up the town’s metal for $195.20; paying the town $110 per ton. She was asked to find out if the town could provide transportation for the metal and still receive the same price per ton. The selectmen are concerned about the fact that the town owned container would only be back every second trip. Christie said that Danbury has their metal picked up by someone who does it with a cherry picker. She was asked to find out who does this. Bill Hall suggested contacting Hammonds Disposal in Canaan.
Lynn Avenue: It was suggested that LGC be contacted regarding Lynn Avenue. There is a question as to what is meant by dedication.
Minutes: The minutes of March 1, 8, 15 and 22 were approved; the minutes of March 29 were distributed for review.
Department Heads & Committees:
Jeff Cantara was not present.
Bonnie O’Brien asked if the town had placed an ad for conservation committee members yet. Christie said she has not.
George Whittaker said the ladder at the old town hall is in poor condition and presents a liability to
the town. Cindy said she would take it out of the building. George indicated a new one would cost around $100.
George asked that the temporary fence holes be added to the building punch list.
Skip Reilly is still concerned with the holding cell in the police department
Generator:
Christie received a price from the generator contractor. She asked for him to break out the price of the generator versus the ancillary items due to the fact that the generator cannot be covered by a grant.
Flagpole:
George brought in a catalog with flagpoles in it for the exterior of the building. Peg said the Reilly
family would supply the flag.
Flyers: Lori Coughlin asked if she could hang sponsorship sheets for a walk she is participating in. She was
told the town does not allow solicitation in the building. The selectmen did wish her well with her
endeavor of raising at least $3,000.
