Municipal Building Photo Gallery

We are really excited to report that the construction began the beginning of July of the proposed municipal building that was approved at the March 16, 06 town meeting.  The total projected cost is $886,500.   The building will be constructed in the field directly behind the existing town hall and will house the police department, town clerk/tax collector, selectmen, planning board and a sizeable area to support other boards and committees.  There will also be a meeting room to serve for many weekly meetings.  We will continue to utilize the existing town hall meeting room   (there are many evenings that two to three meetings take place at the same time) in addition to ground floor office space currently proposed for the health officer and emergency management.

It was agreed by the Building Committee and Board of Selectmen to go with the construction management concept.  Brackley Shaw of Bridgewater was hired as the architect for the project.  Some of Brackley’s local commercial projects include the Newfound Regional High School, Bridgewater/Hebron Elementary School and the Bridgewater Safety Building.  Bonnette, Page and Stone were selected as the construction managers.  Keith McBey of BPS worked diligently with the Building Committee through the design process crunching numbers to present at town meeting.  Chris Cass of BPS will serve as project manager.

The Committee originally felt it would be cost prohibitive to have air conditioning, however, we were very fortunate to have Precision Mechanical’s inclusive quote for plumbing, heating and air conditioning come in at a price that even the project manager thought was too good to be true.  He has confirmed the price with them, so needless to say, we will have central air conditioning in our new facility.

We will attempt to keep you apprised as construction develops with weekly photos.

The estimated date for completion is December.  To date, the flooding and extreme rain has not appeared to hinder the project.

9/20/06 Construction update of new municipal building.

The project is right on schedule both financially and time wise.  Brackley Shaw, the architect is very pleased with the progress.  We have been very fortunate that, until this week, nothing unforeseen has occurred that has required us to draw from the contingency fund.

Use of the contingency was approved this week by the Selectmen for upgrades to the artesian well dug in 1958 to include a submersible pump.  The well has been tested for recovery estimated between 6-8 gallons per minute.  The heating/air conditioning system will be propane and there was an upgrade approved on the air return system to afford a cleaner running system.   We have been advised that the proficiency of the proposed propane system is satisfactory.

Paving was not included in the original project price and the Selectmen are currently giving consideration to using funds from the contingency to have the parking area paved.  Paving would assure cleaner entry to the building eliminating the large amount of gravel carried in, causing wear to the flooring. It was decided to hold off for a few more weeks to have a better handle on the final cost of the project.

We have requested a completion date of December 9th to coincide with the event being planned by the Historical Society and have been advised that this is a very real possibility.
